Holy Relics of Lord Buddha Enshrined in Kalmykia, Russia

In a moment of deep spiritual and cultural significance, the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha from India were formally enshrined in Kalmykia, marking the first-ever exposition of these sacred artifacts in the Russian Republic.

Organizers: The event was organized by the BTI Section of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), the National Museum, and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).

Venue: The Sacred Relics were enshrined for public veneration at Kalmykia’s main Buddhist monastery — the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery in Elista, popularly known as the “Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha.”

Spiritual Significance: The exposition highlights the shared Buddhist heritage and the deep-rooted spiritual connection between India and Russia, especially with the Buddhist community of Kalmykia, which follows the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Diplomatic Engagements: The Indian delegation, led by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Maurya, also engaged in several bilateral and cultural exchanges, strengthening India–Russia cultural and spiritual ties.

Cultural Message: The event reinforces India’s role as the birthplace of Buddhism and a global center for interfaith harmony and cultural diplomacy.
