IMF Executive Board

K. Subramaniam, former Chief Economic Advisor (2018–2022), was appointed Executive Director (India) at the IMF in November 2022.

  • He represented India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan at the IMF.
  • His term was scheduled to end in November 2025 (a 3-year tenure).
  • As per a government order dated April 30, he has been terminated with immediate effect.
  • No official reason has been provided by the government for ending his term early.

The IMF Executive Board:

  • Is responsible for the day-to-day business of the IMF.
  • Comprises 25 Directors, elected by member countries or groups of countries.
  • Includes the Managing Director, who serves as Chair of the Board.
  • Meets several times each week.
  • Operates based on documents and analysis prepared by IMF management and staff.

The Managing Director of the IMF is the head of the staff and Chair of the Executive Board.
