India Elected as Chairman of AIBD Executive Board

Why in News?

• India elected Chairman of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) with highest number of votes.
• Event → 23rd AIBD General Conference (19–21 Aug 2025, Phuket, Thailand).
• India last held this position in 2016.
• India is also currently President of the AIBD General Conference until Aug 2025.

About AIBD

• Founded → 1977, under the auspices of UNESCO.
• Type → Regional inter-governmental organization.
• Secretariat → Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
• Members → 92 organizations from 45 countries.
• Mandate → To promote a vibrant, cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region.
• India’s Role:
  • Founding member.
  • Represented by Prasar Bharati (public service broadcaster).
