India hosts Colombo Security Conclave NSA meet

The 7th National Security Adviser (NSA) level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) took place in New Delhi on 20th November. NSA Ajit Doval hosted his counterparts from Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

  • Seychelles participated as an observer, while Malaysia attended as a guest.

• Colombo Security Conclave Overview

  • CSC was established to enhance cooperation among Indian Ocean Region (IOR) countries on key security challenges.
  • Founding documents were signed in Sri Lanka in August 2024.
  • The conclave operates on five pillars:
    1. Maritime Safety and Security
    2. Countering Terrorism and Radicalisation
    3. Combating Trafficking and Transnational Organised Crime
    4. Cyber Security and Protection of Critical Infrastructure and Technology
    5. Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief

• Seychelles to Join as Full Member

  • Following the election of a new president expressing intent to strengthen ties with India, Seychelles decided to become the sixth member of CSC.
  • The expansion underlines the growing importance of CSC as a regional architecture for stability and security in the IOR.

• Strategic Significance

  • CSC fosters collaboration on maritime security, counter-terrorism, and disaster relief, ensuring collective response mechanisms.
  • The conclave is emerging as a key platform for regional security dialogue in the Indian Ocean.
