India Launches SOAR Program to Integrate AI Skills into School Education

The Skilling for AI Readiness (SOAR) program, launched in July 2025 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) competencies into India’s educational framework, strengthening the country’s position in global technological advancements. The initiative coincides with the 10-year milestone of the Skill India Mission, which has empowered millions through skilling schemes since 2015.

Key Highlights:

  • Target Audience: SOAR focuses on school students from classes 6 to 12 and educators across India, offering three 15-hour modules for students and a 45-hour module for teachers.
  • Curriculum Content: The modules introduce foundational AI and machine learning concepts, data literacy, and the ethical use of technology, ensuring learners develop a responsible understanding of AI.
  • Objectives: By familiarising students with AI early, the program seeks to nurture curiosity, promote responsible innovation, and equip the next generation for future workplaces.
  • Alignment with Government Goals: The initiative supports Atmanirbhar Bharat by building a self-reliant, technology-driven economy and expanding AI skills under PMKVY 4.0.
  • Industry Relevance: With AI reshaping sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, finance, and education, SOAR ensures that students gain the skills required to thrive in emerging AI-driven industries.
