India Marks Three Years of National Logistics Policy

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry commemorated the third anniversary of the National Logistics Policy (NLP), launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 17 September 2022. The policy seeks to reduce logistics costs to global benchmarks, improve India’s position in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) to the top 25 by 2030, and build a robust, data-driven logistics ecosystem.

Key Achievements (2022–2025)

  • Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP): Enabled secure API integration across more than 30 digital systems, facilitating over 160 crore digital transactions as of August 2025.
  • LEADS Index: Assesses logistics performance across States and Union Territories, fostering competition and efficiency.
  • LEAPS Initiative: Recognises innovation in logistics by MSMEs, startups, and academia through the Logistics Excellence, Advancement, and Performance Shield.
  • Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs): Large-scale parks under development to integrate customs clearance, cold storage, packaging, and multimodal transport services.

Push for Green and Sustainable Logistics
The Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT), developed by the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, provides a cloud-based platform aligned with ISO 14083 standards to track and reduce carbon emissions from logistics activities.

Sector-Specific Frameworks
The Sectoral Policy for Efficient Logistics (SPEL) has been introduced to build resilient, tailored logistics solutions for industries including coal, cement, steel, food processing, and pharmaceuticals.
