India–Pakistan Exchange Nuclear Installations List

India and Pakistan on 1 January 2026 exchanged the list of their nuclear installations and facilities under a bilateral agreement that prohibits attacks on each other’s atomic sites. This marks the 35th consecutive exchange of such lists between the two countries.

About the Bilateral Agreement

The exchange took place under the provisions of the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

  • The agreement was signed on December 31, 1988.
  • It came into force on January 27, 1991.

Annual Confidence-Building Measure

As per the pact, both countries are required to inform each other of all nuclear installations and facilities on January 1 every year. The first exchange under this agreement took place on 1 January 1992.

Mode of Exchange

The lists were exchanged simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad, reaffirming the continuation of this long-standing confidence-building mechanism despite broader bilateral tensions.
