India Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Action at CoP30 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil

India’s National Statement was delivered by Ambassador of India to Brazil, Shri Dinesh Bhatia, at the Leaders’ Summit of the 30th Conference of Parties (CoP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The summit is being held in Belém, Brazil, from 10th to 21st November 2025.

India’s Core Message

  • Ambassador Bhatia reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to climate action rooted in equity, national circumstances, and the principles of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC).
  • He emphasized that India’s climate policies are guided by fairness, inclusivity, and the developmental needs of its people, aligning with global climate goals.

Commemorating Global Climate Milestones

  • India thanked Brazil for hosting CoP30 on the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and recalled the 33-year legacy of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
  • The statement highlighted that CoP30 serves as:
    • A moment to reflect on the global response to climate change, and
    • An occasion to celebrate the legacy of the Rio Summit, where the principles of Equity and CBDR-RC were first adopted—foundational to today’s international climate regime.

Support for the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF)

  • India welcomed Brazil’s initiative to establish the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF).
  • The facility aims to foster collective, sustained global action for the protection and restoration of tropical forests.
  • India has joined the TFFF as an Observer, acknowledging its potential to strengthen global climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
