India Reaffirms Commitment to Low-Carbon Industrial Transition at LeadIT Roundtable

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav addressed the LeadIT Industry Leaders’ Roundtable on 17 November 2025 at CoP30, Belém, Brazil.

  • As Co-Chair of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), he emphasized that the meeting comes at a critical phase of global climate transition.
  • He underscored India’s commitment to technology-driven, sustainable, and collaborative industrial transformation under the Paris Agreement.

LeadIT as a Model Global Partnership

  • Shri Yadav described LeadIT as one of the most impactful international coalitions supporting low-carbon industrial pathways.
  • He reiterated that India and Sweden jointly launched LeadIT in 2019, demonstrating how global partnerships can drive meaningful climate action.
  • LeadIT brings together:
    • Governments
    • Industry leaders
    • International organizations
      — all dedicated to creating competitive and low-carbon industrial value chains.

Progress Under the Industry Transition Platform (ITP)

  • The Minister highlighted progress achieved under the Industry Transition Platform (ITP), funded jointly by India and Sweden.
  • Soon, 18 industries and research institutions from both nations will start collaborative projects focusing on:
    • Value creation from industrial by-products and gases
    • Carbon capture and utilization (CCU)
    • Artificial intelligence for industrial process optimization
    • Electrification of industrial systems
    • Hydrogen-based industrial heating

International Industrial Cooperation Strengthened

  • Shri Yadav underlined a major LeadIT-enabled partnership between Tata Motors (India) and Volvo Group (Sweden).
  • The collaboration aims to decarbonize heavy-duty transport, a sector critical for achieving global climate goals.

India’s Commitment to Sustainable Industrial Transition

  • The Minister reiterated that India views clean industrial transition as central to its climate strategy.
  • He called for greater global cooperation, especially in technology transfer and innovation, to achieve net-zero aligned industrial systems.
