India clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. With this victory, India became the first team to win two consecutive T20 World Cups and the first to win the tournament three times.

Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India delivered a commanding performance. After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner opted to field first, but India posted a massive 255/5, the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final.

India’s innings was powered by an aggressive start from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 52 off 21 balls and shared a 98-run partnership with Sanju Samson. Samson later stitched another century partnership with Ishan Kishan, who smashed 54 off 25 deliveries, helping India cross the 200-run mark in just 16 overs. Shivam Dube provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 26 off 8 balls.

Chasing 256, New Zealand struggled from the beginning as India’s bowlers struck early. The team was eventually bowled out for 159, handing India a comfortable victory. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with four wickets and was named the Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the competition.

With this triumph, India added another chapter to its T20 legacy after earlier titles in 2007 and 2024, while also becoming the first team to lift the trophy on home soil.
