Indian Army Signs ₹293 Crore Deal for ‘Suryastra’

Under emergency procurement powers, the Indian Army has signed a ₹293 crore contract with private defence manufacturer NIBE Limited, in collaboration with Israel, for the supply of an advanced long-range rocket launcher system.

‘Suryastra’ to Enhance Deep-Strike Capability
The system, named Suryastra, is India’s first indigenously developed universal multi-calibre rocket launcher. It will significantly enhance the Army’s deep-strike artillery firepower and operational reach, with strike capabilities of 150 km and 300 km.

High Precision and Multi-Target Engagement
Suryastra is designed to engage multiple targets simultaneously at different ranges. During trials, the system demonstrated a high degree of accuracy, achieving a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than five metres, highlighting its precision strike capability.

Versatility with Loitering Munitions
In addition to conventional rockets, the same launcher can also fire loitering munitions up to a range of 100 km, greatly enhancing operational flexibility and battlefield adaptability.
