Indian Navy Unveils Crest of Mahe-Class ASW Shallow Water Craft

The Indian Navy has unveiled the crest of Mahe, the first vessel of the indigenously designed Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), ahead of its commissioning in Mumbai.

  • Named after the coastal town of Mahe on India’s western seaboard, the ship reflects India’s coastal heritage and maritime traditions.
  • The crest features the Urumi, a flexible sword associated with Kalarippayattu, symbolizing the region’s cultural and martial legacy. Rising from the sea, the Urumi signifies agility, strength, and readiness.
  • The ship bears the motto “Silent Hunters,” representing the core attributes of ASW operations—stealth, vigilance and decisive action.
  • The Mahe-class vessels enhance India’s coastal defence capabilities through improved anti-submarine detection and engagement in shallow waters.
