Indian Railways Deploys Humanoid Robot ‘ASC ARJUN’

Indian Railways has introduced a humanoid robot named “ASC ARJUN” at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative across the Indian Railways network.

The humanoid robot will operate alongside Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to support station operations, especially during periods of high passenger footfall. The initiative is aimed at enhancing passenger safety, security, and operational efficiency.

ASC ARJUN has been fully designed and developed in Visakhapatnam using indigenous, home-grown technology. A dedicated team worked for over a year to develop the robot, reflecting Indian Railways’ expanding capability to integrate advanced technologies into routine operations.

The robot is equipped with advanced features such as Face Recognition System (FRS)–based intrusion detection, AI-driven crowd monitoring, and real-time alert generation to RPF control rooms. In addition, ASC ARJUN can make automated public announcements in English, Hindi, and Telugu, assisting passengers with guidance and spreading awareness on safety and security measures.
