Indian tricolour hoisted atop Seattle’s Space Needle

In a historic first, the Indian tricolour was hoisted at the Seattle Space Needle on India’s 79th Independence Day. The event marked the first time that the flag of a foreign nation has been raised at the iconic 605-feet-tall American landmark.

• The commemoration underscored the significant contributions of the Indian-American diaspora in shaping Seattle’s journey as a leading tech hub in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

• In a special gesture, King County, which includes Seattle and 39 other cities, issued an official proclamation declaring August 15 as India Day.
