India’s ‘Boong’ Wins Big at BAFTA Awards 2026

India made history at the BAFTA Awards as the Manipuri-language film Boong became the first Indian film to win the Best Children’s and Family Film category. The ceremony was held at Royal Festival Hall, London.

Directed by debut filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong is set in Manipur and tells an emotional story about family, resilience, and hope. The film follows a young boy named Boong who dreams of reuniting his broken family. Raised by his single mother Mandakini, he embarks on a journey with his best friend to find his missing father.

Boong had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section and later screened at major global events including the Warsaw International Film Festival, MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, International Film Festival of India, and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the film One Battle After Another dominated the night, winning six awards, including Best Film.
