India’s first AI-enabled state university pilot

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Shri Jayant Chaudhary, outlined the Government’s vision for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) across India’s education and skilling ecosystems at Google’s AI for Learning Forum held in New Delhi.

Landmark AI Collaboration

The Minister announced a major collaboration between MSDE, Google Cloud and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, positioning CCSU as India’s first AI-enabled state university pilot. The initiative is seen as a key step towards operationalising the Prime Minister’s vision of a technology-driven “Viksit Bharat 2047.”

CCSU as an AI Living Laboratory

Under the pilot programme, CCSU Meerut will function as a living laboratory for AI-led institutional reform, implementing:

  • Personalised AI tutors for students
  • AI-driven skill-gap analysis to align education with industry needs
  • Intelligent document processing to streamline administrative workflows

The project aims to develop a scalable framework that can be replicated across India’s higher education system.

National Scaling Plan

  • The Minister noted that CCSU’s affiliated colleges will be the first to benefit from the pilot.
  • Learnings from the initiative are intended to be scaled across over 45,000 colleges and 1,200+ universities nationwide.

Alignment with Skill Initiatives

Shri Jayant Chaudhary also highlighted alignment with the Government’s ₹60,000 crore Model ITI Scheme, which will enable vocational institutions to integrate AI-enabled curricula alongside upgraded physical and digital infrastructure.
