India’s first-ever 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography with iStent

The Ophthalmology Department at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi Cantt, has successfully carried out India’s first-ever 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography with iStent, marking a major breakthrough in advanced eye care and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Cutting-Edge Technology Used
The procedure was performed using a new stand-mounted Spectralis imaging system along with a state-of-the-art 3D operating microscope, enabling high-definition, real-time intraoperative visualisation. This technological integration places the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) among global leaders in ophthalmic innovation.

Breakthrough in Glaucoma Management
Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, often progresses silently, making early and precise intervention challenging. The new technique allows real-time mapping of aqueous outflow pathways, helping surgeons accurately identify and target areas of impaired drainage.

Minimally Invasive Surgery with Better Outcomes
The integration of 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography with iStent, a form of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), enables more precise stent placement, improved intraoperative decision-making, and better long-term control of intraocular pressure.

Setting a New National Benchmark
As a first-of-its-kind procedure in India, this achievement sets a new benchmark in glaucoma care, offering enhanced imaging, targeted intervention, and significantly improved patient outcomes.
