India’s first “Smart and Intelligent Village

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has announced the establishment of India’s first “Smart and Intelligent Village” in the Nagpur district. This pioneering initiative, located in Satnavari, aims to be a model of rural development by integrating a range of digital technologies.

Key features of the project:

  • Location: Satnavari village, situated 31 km from Nagpur city, was selected for the pilot project. Its existing infrastructure, including a pond, agricultural land, schools, and anganwadis, made it an ideal location for implementing smart technologies.
  • Technological Integration: The village is equipped with a variety of advanced technologies, including:
    • Smart Farming: AI-powered applications provide farmers with information on soil health, weather, and cropping patterns. Drones and sensors are also being used for spraying fertilizers and pesticides, helping to reduce costs and improve productivity.
    • Telemedicine: Medical centers in the village are technologically connected to larger hospitals, enabling remote diagnostics and the transmission of medical reports.
    • AI & IoT: AI-powered systems monitor water resources, and an Internet of Things (IoT) framework provides seamless connectivity.
    • Digital Classrooms: Schools and anganwadis are equipped with digital learning tools and AI, providing students with access to high-quality educational content.
    • Smart Infrastructure: The village also has smart lighting systems that conserve energy and a digital surveillance system for enhanced security.
  • Collaboration: The project was proposed by the Voice of Indian Communication Technology Enterprises (VoICE), a consortium of major Indian telecom players. Representatives from VoICE met with the Chief Minister on June 19 to present the project blueprint.
