India’s Wind Energy Capacity Rises Over 10.5% to 51.5 GW:

On the occasion of Global Wind Day (15th June 2025), Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the pivotal role of wind energy in India’s renewable energy roadmap while addressing a stakeholders’ conference in Bengaluru.

Key Highlights:

  • Wind Energy Growth:
    • Installed wind capacity increased 10.5% year-on-year.
    • Reached 51.5 GW in May 2025, up from 46.42 GW in May 2024.
  • Overall Renewable Energy Capacity:
    • Rose 17.13% year-on-year.
    • Reached 226.74 GW in May 2025 from 193.58 GW a year earlier.
  • Solar Energy Surge:
    • Capacity jumped 31.49% to 110.83 GW in May 2025 from 84.28 GW in May 2024.
    • Marked an exponential growth from just 2.82 GW in 2014.

Policy Vision:

  • Target: Achieve 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030.
  • Goal: Reduce India’s carbon footprint and combat climate change.
