International Salinity Conference 3.0 – WE-CARE 2025 Held in Goa

The International Salinity Conference 3.0 – WE-CARE 2025 was held at the ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Old Goa.

Key Highlights:

  • Focus of the Conference:
    • The conference addressed the rising challenges of soil and water salinity, which threaten farm productivity, ecosystems, and food security, particularly in arid and coastal regions.
    • Dr. Nayak highlighted that over a billion hectares globally, including 6.7 million hectares in India, are affected by salinity.
    • He emphasized the need for science-based innovations and sustainable agricultural practices to restore degraded lands and ensure long-term food security.
  • International Participation:
    • Around 150 delegates participated, representing India and member countries of SAARC and AARDO.
    • International participants included experts from Japan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Dubai, Oman, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Gambia, Eswatini, and Lebanon.
    • Institutions such as JIRCAS (Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences) and ICBA (International Center for Biosaline Agriculture) also took part.
  • Objective:
    The event aimed to exchange knowledge, develop strategies for saline ecosystem restoration, and shape policy recommendations for sustainable land and water management.
  • Organising Body:
    The conference was organized by the Indian Society of Soil Salinity and Water Quality (ISSSWQ), founded on 6th August 2008 at Karnal under the Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860, to promote research and development in soil salinity and water quality management.
