Jal Shakti Ministry Launches Sujal Gaon ID

Union Minister of Ministry of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil recently launched the Sujal Gaon ID, a scheme-based unique digital identifier designed to enable complete digital mapping of rural piped water supply assets across India.

For the first time, every rural drinking water scheme in the country is being assigned a digital identity, bringing the entire rural water supply system onto a unified national platform. So far, 1.64 lakh Sujal Gaon IDs have been created across 31 States and Union Territories, and these have been linked to about 67,000 Sujalam Bharat IDs.

Each Sujalam Bharat ID integrates a scheme’s infrastructure ID and service area ID, creating a comprehensive digital footprint of rural water service delivery.

The “Sujalam Bharat” national digital architecture will provide source-to-tap mapping of the entire rural water supply chain through Sujal Gaon IDs/Service Area IDs for every village. This system will enable real-time monitoring, improved transparency, and evidence-based decision-making in water governance.

Under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, Gram Panchayats will certify the “Har Ghar Jal” status only after ensuring that sustainable operation and maintenance mechanisms are fully in place. This makes long-term functionality of water supply systems a mandatory requirement.
