Kalaa Setu – Real-Time Language Tech for Bharat

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s WaveX initiative has launched the ‘Kalaa Setu – Real-Time Language Tech for Bharat’ challenge, aimed at leveraging AI to enhance inclusive digital communication and public outreach in governance.

Key Aspects of the Initiative:

  • Purpose: To strengthen inclusive digital communication and improve public outreach in governance by utilizing AI-driven solutions.
  • Goals:
    • To invite India’s leading AI startups to develop innovative solutions for real-time multilingual and multimedia content generation.
    • To bridge language barriers and deliver information to the last mile, addressing the scale and linguistic diversity demands of India’s digital governance ecosystem.
    • To enable public communication bodies (like All India Radio, Doordarshan, and PIB) to dynamically convert official information into locally relevant formats in real time.
  • Target Audience (for solutions): Various segments of society, including farmers, students, and senior citizens, by providing them timely updates in their preferred languages.
  • Key Areas of Focus for Solutions:
    • Text-to-video generation for creating contextualized video content.
    • Text-to-graphics generation for producing infographics and illustrations.
    • Text-to-audio generation using advanced voice synthesis for regionally relatable speech content.
  • Application Process: Startups can submit applications through the WAVEX portal (https://wavex.wavesbazaar.com) under the ‘Kalaa Setu’ category, with a working Minimum Viable Concept due by July 30, 2025.
  • Benefits for Winners: Successful startups will receive support for full-scale development, pilot opportunities with All India Radio, Doordarshan, and PIB, and incubation under the WaveX Innovation Platform.
  • Broader Context: This initiative is part of the Indian Government’s broader commitment to promoting AI-driven technologies for inclusive and effective governance, ensuring all citizens have timely access to information.
