Legendary Actor Mohanlal Honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023

Renowned actor, director, and producer Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023, India’s highest honour in cinema.

Mohanlal, who began his film journey at an early age, has acted across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. With a career spanning over four decades, he has featured in nearly 400 films, earning five National Awards and multiple Kerala State honours.

He becomes only the second Malayali recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, after acclaimed filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who was honoured in 2004.

Mohanlal’s contributions extend beyond acting. As a producer, he won the Best Feature Film Award for Vanaprastham. The Union Government has recognised his achievements with the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2019). In 2009, he was also commissioned as an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, instituted in 1969, is presented by the Government of India to honour individuals for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

Devika Rani was the first actor to receive this award in 1969.
