Lunar Trailblazer satellite

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer satellite from Kennedy Space Center, Florida on 26 February 2025. This small but powerful 200 kg satellite will map and study water on the Moon’s surface like never before!

Mission Goals

Find & Map Lunar Water: Identify where water exists, its form, quantity, and changes over time.
Two Science Instruments:

  • HVM3 Infrared Spectrometer – Detects water and minerals with high precision.
  • Lunar Thermal Mapper (LTM) – Captures temperature variations to understand lunar water cycles.
Solar System Impact: Findings will advance our understanding of water cycles on airless bodies beyond the Moon.
