Maharashtra launches sports initiative Project Mahadeva

Why in News

  • The Government of Maharashtra inaugurated the state-level sports initiative ‘Project Mahadeva’ at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
  • The launch was attended by global football icon Lionel Messi, former Argentine players Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Chhetri, and Indian football team captain Rahul Bheke, among others.

About Project Mahadeva

  • Nature: Grassroots football talent identification and development programme
  • Target Group: Children under 13 years of age
  • Objective:
    • Early identification of football talent
    • Systematic training and grooming of high-quality football players
    • Building a strong football ecosystem in Maharashtra
