MeitY Launches ‘Blockchain India Challenge’

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the Blockchain India Challenge at its headquarters in New Delhi to promote innovative blockchain-based governance solutions across the country.

The national initiative is being implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) with support from MeitY. It aims to encourage Indian startups to pitch and pilot cutting-edge blockchain solutions tailored for public sector use.

The Challenge focuses on developing permissioned blockchain-based systems that prioritise regulatory oversight, security, auditability, and tamper-proof records for government applications. Key sectors targeted include e-procurement, supply chain management, public distribution systems, education, healthcare, agriculture, power, and Internet of Things (IoT).

Officials noted that blockchain technology can enhance transparency, create a single source of verified data, and improve efficiency in government services, ultimately strengthening trust and accountability in public administration.
