Metre Convention

The Department of Consumer Affairs (Government of India) on May 20 commemorated World Metrology Day 2025, marking the 150th anniversary of the historic Metre Convention signed in Paris on 20th May 1875.

The Convention to “assure the international unification and improvement of the metric system” and its annexed regulations (commonly known as the “Metre Convention”), was signed on 20 May 1875, and amended in 1921.

It is an international treaty, the purpose of which was the creation of an international organization called the BIPM.
