Ministry of Tribal Affairs Launches “RISA: Timeless Tribal”

The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs on 18 March 2026 launched a dedicated premium signature brand titled “RISA: Timeless Tribal.”

Key Highlights:

  • The launch focuses on strategic partnerships with renowned fashion designers, engaged through the National Design Centre (NDC).
  • RISA aims to preserve tribal looms and craft traditions while promoting them among premium domestic and international consumers.
  • The initiative seeks to create a distinct brand identity for tribal products, enhancing their visibility and market value.
  • It is designed to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary demand.

Coverage under Phase I:

  • The project will cover 10 clusters, including:
    • 5 Tribal Weaves:
      • Eri silk (Bodo, Assam)
      • Santal cotton (Santal, Jharkhand)
      • Changpa Pashmina (Changpa, Ladakh)
      • Kotpad cotton (Mirgan, Odisha)
      • Muga silk (Miri/Mising, Assam)
    • 2 Embroideries:
      • Dongria embroidery (Dongria Kondh, Odisha)
      • Toda embroidery (Toda, Tamil Nadu)
    • 3 Tribal Crafts (specific clusters to be developed under the initiative)
