MoD Signs ₹5,083 Crore Defence Deals for ALH Mk-III Helicopters and VL-Shtil Missiles

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed two major contracts worth ₹5,083 crore to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy.

₹2,901 Crore Deal for ALH Mk-III (Maritime Role)

The MoD has signed a ₹2,901 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru for the procurement of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III in the Maritime Role (MR) configuration for the Indian Coast Guard.

The contract has been awarded under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, reinforcing the government’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing.

The twin-engine ALH Mk-III (MR) helicopters will be equipped with advanced operational role equipment, along with an engineering support package and performance-based logistics support. These helicopters are capable of undertaking a wide range of maritime security missions from shore-based airfields as well as ships at sea.

According to the Defence Ministry, the induction of these helicopters will significantly enhance the Indian Coast Guard’s capabilities in ensuring the safety and protection of artificial islands, offshore installations, fishermen, and the marine environment.

₹2,182 Crore Contract for VL-Shtil Missiles

In a separate agreement, the Ministry signed a ₹2,182 crore contract with JSC Rosoboronexport of the Russian Federation for the procurement of Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch (VL)-Shtil missiles and associated missile holding frames for the Indian Navy.

The VL-Shtil missile system is designed to provide air defence capabilities against aerial threats, thereby strengthening the Navy’s operational preparedness.
