Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM)

The Union Cabinet approved the Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) as a sub-scheme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) for the period 2025-2026 with an initial total outlay of Rs.1600 crore.

Key Objectives:

• Modernize irrigation water supply networks from existing canals/sources.
• Enable micro-irrigation from established sources to farm gates (up to 1 hectare).
• Implement pressurized underground piped irrigation systems.

Technological Integration:

• Use of SCADA systems and IoT technologies for:
  • Water accounting
  • Water management

Expected Outcomes:

• Improved Water Use Efficiency (WUE) at the farm level
• Enhanced agricultural productivity and income for farmers
• Strengthened irrigation infrastructure backend

Sustainability Focus:

• Promote Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT)
• Hand over irrigation asset management to Water User Societies (WUS)
