Multi Agency Centre (MAC)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 16, 2025 inaugurated the revamped Multi Agency Centre (MAC).

Background:

  • Conceptualised in 2001, following the Kargil War, as a counter-terrorism intelligence-sharing platform.
  • Acts as a central intelligence coordination hub.

Major Features of the New MAC:

  • Nationwide Connectivity:
    • Connects all police districts across India through a secure digital network.
  • Participants:
    • Involves 28 organisations, including:
      • Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)
      • Armed Forces
      • State Police Forces
      • Other security and intelligence agencies
  • Technological Enhancements:
    • Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
    • Use of Geographic Information System (GIS) for spatial intelligence
    • Real-time data sharing and collaboration

Significance:

  • Provides a seamless, integrated platform to:
    • Enhance real-time intelligence sharing
    • Strengthen counter-terrorism operations
    • Tackle complex national security challenges
    • Enable inter-agency synergy for both domestic and international threats
  • Aimed at making the Indian security grid more proactive, predictive, and preventive in nature.
