National Science Day 2026

National Science Day was celebrated across the country on February 28 to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by eminent physicist C. V. Raman.

The day is observed annually on February 28, commemorating Raman’s groundbreaking discovery, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. National Science Day celebrations include theme-based science communication programmes, exhibitions, lectures, and outreach activities conducted nationwide.

Theme for 2026

The theme for this year’s National Science Day was “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” The theme highlights the contribution of women scientists and innovators while linking scientific advancement with India’s goal of becoming a developed nation.

National Science Day aims to:

  • Promote scientific temper and awareness
  • Encourage innovation and research
  • Recognise contributions of scientists, especially women in STEM
  • Inspire young students to pursue careers in science and technology

The celebrations are coordinated by institutions such as Department of Science and Technology along with schools, universities, and research organisations across India.
