NGO ‘Educate Girls’ wins Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025

An Indian non-profit organisation, Foundation to Educate Girls Globally — popularly known as Educate Girls — has been named a 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation announced.

First Indian Organisation to be Honoured

Educate Girls is the first Indian organisation to win the prestigious award, often described as Asia’s Nobel Prize.

Work in Rural Education

Founded in 2007 by Safeena Husain, the NGO is dedicated to mobilising community and government resources to improve girls’ education in rural and educationally disadvantaged areas of India. The movement began in Rajasthan and has since expanded its reach.

Other 2025 Awardees

The other winners of the 2025 award include:

  • Shaahina Ali from the Maldives for her environmental work.
  • Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva from the Philippines for his humanitarian efforts.

About the Award

The Ramon Magsaysay Award, instituted in 1958, honours “greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia”. It is named after former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay. Since its inception, more than 300 individuals and organisations across Asia have received the honour.
