Nickel-Copper-PGE deposit discovered in Chhattisgarh

A significant deposit of Nickel, Copper, and Platinum Group Elements (Ni-Cu-PGE) has been discovered in the Bhalukona-Jamnidih block of Mahasamund district, Chhattisgarh. This find is expected to be a major boost for India’s self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Key Details of the Discovery

  • Company: Deccan Gold Mines Limited (DGML) has been awarded a 30 sq km Composite Licence to explore and mine the area.
  • Geological Findings: A 700-meter-long mineralized zone has been identified. Geophysical surveys suggest that sulphide mineralization, which indicates the presence of valuable minerals, extends up to 300 meters in depth. This points to a substantial resource potential.
  • Significance: The presence of these critical minerals is vital for various modern technologies, including battery manufacturing (Nickel) and electronics (Platinum Group Elements), making the discovery strategically important for India’s industrial growth.
