NIRF India Rankings 2025

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the India Rankings 2025, prepared under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) introduced in 2015. The first edition of the rankings was released in 2016, covering one category and three subject domains (Universities, Engineering, Management, and Pharmacy). Over the years, the framework has expanded to 9 categories and 8 subject domains by 2025.

IIT Madras Retains Top Spot

  • IIT Madras has secured the No. 1 position in the engineering category for the 10th consecutive year.
  • It also topped the Overall category and the newly introduced Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) category.
  • IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay followed in the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively.

Other Leading Institutions

  • IIT Hyderabad ranked 7th, ahead of IIT Guwahati at 8th.
  • NIT Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) emerged as the only NIT in the top 10, securing the 9th spot.
  • IIT (BHU) Varanasi closed the top 10 list at 10th rank.

Universities Category

  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru maintained its dominance, ranking first in the Universities category for the 10th consecutive year.
