NSG to Establish New Hub in Ayodhya

The National Security Guard (NSG), India’s elite counter-terrorism and counter-hijack force, will soon set up a new hub in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. This addition will mark the seventh operational hub, complementing existing facilities in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Jammu.

Round-the-Clock Presence of Commandos

  • NSG commandos are deployed at all hubs throughout the year, ensuring rapid response capability in case of terror incidents or other emergencies.

Extensive Reconnaissance Across India

  • Over the past forty years, NSG personnel have conducted reconnaissance at more than 770 strategic locations nationwide.
  • A comprehensive data bank with strategic counter-terror response plans has been developed based on these assessments.

Foundation Stone for Special Operations Training Centre (SOTC)

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently laid the foundation stone for a new Special Operations Training Centre at the NSG centre in Manesar, Haryana.
  • The SOTC will enhance specialized training and operational readiness of NSG personnel.

About the National Security Guard

  • The NSG was established on September 22, 1986, following a bill introduced in Parliament in August of the same year.
  • It functions as a Federal Contingency Force designed to handle all forms of terrorism across India.
  • The organization operates under the principle of “Zero Error Operations” and is deployed only in exceptional circumstances.

Structure and Inspiration

  • The NSG is modeled on the SAS (UK) and GSG-9 (Germany).
  • It consists of two main components:
    • Special Action Group (SAG) – Comprising Army personnel for direct combat operations.
    • Special Ranger Groups (SRG) – Comprised of personnel from Central Armed Police Forces, providing support and security cordons.
