Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) Granted Navratna Status

Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has been accorded Navratna status, following approval from the Union Finance Minister. It becomes the 27th Navratna CPSE in India.

  • About NRL:
    • Operates under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
    • Located in Golaghat district, Assam.
    • A subsidiary of Oil India Ltd.
    • Originally part of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) before restructuring.
  • Performance Indicators:
    • Turnover (FY 2024–25): ₹25,147 crore
    • Net profit: ₹1,608 crore
  • Benefits of Navratna Status:
    Grants state-run enterprises greater financial and operational autonomy, including the ability to:
    • Undertake larger investment projects
    • Form strategic alliances
    • Invest up to a specified limit without seeking government approval
  • Establishment and Operations:
    • NRL was commissioned in 1999.
    • Commercial production began in October 2000.
