Pact for the Future

India has strongly advocated for urgent and time-bound reforms of the UN Security Council, reiterating its steadfast commitment to the implementation and review of the “Pact for the Future” agreement to strengthen global cooperation.

India’s Stance and Appeal:

  • UNSC Reforms: India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, emphasized the critical need for urgent and time-bound UN Security Council reforms. India has consistently been at the forefront of these efforts, asserting its rightful place as a permanent member of the Council, which in its current form does not reflect 21st-century geopolitical realities.
  • Global Cooperation: Speaking at an informal dialogue, Ambassador Harish stressed India’s strong commitment to the implementation and review of the “Pact for the Future.”
  • Coherence with Global Bodies: He also highlighted the importance of ensuring coherence with processes of the G20, World Trade Organisation (WTO), World Bank, and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
