Plasser’s Quick Relaying System (PQRS)

The Alipurduar Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a major milestone by recording its highest-ever single-day mechanised track renewal output of 1,033 track metres on December 23. The record was achieved using Plasser’s Quick Relaying System (PQRS).

Role of Advanced Technology and Coordination
The achievement reflects the effective deployment of high-output mechanised track-laying technology, optimised traffic blocks, and close coordination between the engineering and operating departments of the railway.

About Plasser’s Quick Relaying System (PQRS)
PQRS comprises compact, self-propelled cranes designed for rapid track renewal.

  • Enables quick replacement of rail panels within shorter traffic blocks
  • Reduces maintenance costs due to compact design
  • Facilitates direct retrieval of old rail panels from the site to the base, eliminating the need for separate freight arrangements
  • Widely used for both new track construction and modernisation of existing railway infrastructure

Track Renewal Progress in NFR
During the current track renewal programme, the Northeast Frontier Railway has completed 290.8 km of track renewal across its jurisdiction.

Operational Significance
The successful execution of such high-output operations highlights NFR’s continued emphasis on:

  • Modern track renewal practices
  • Improved asset reliability
  • Enhanced maintenance efficiency
