PM Lays Foundation Stone of India’s First PM MITRA Park in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17 September laid the foundation stone of the country’s first Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. The project is coming up on about 2,158 acres at Bhainsola village and will be equipped with world-class facilities, providing significant benefits to cotton producers and the textile value chain.

Part of a National Network of 7 Parks
The Dhar park is part of a nationwide initiative under which the Union Ministry of Textiles has notified the establishment of seven PM MITRA Parks with a total outlay of ₹4,445 crore for the period up to 2027–28. These will come up at:

  • Virudhnagar (Tamil Nadu)
  • Warangal (Telangana)
  • Navasari (Gujarat)
  • Kalaburagi (Karnataka)
  • Dhar (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Amravati (Maharashtra)

Driving Investment and Jobs
The PM MITRA scheme aims to attract ₹70,000 crore in investments and generate nearly 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs. Each park can be developed as a Greenfield or Brownfield project, with the Centre providing financial assistance of up to ₹800 crore for Greenfield parks and ₹500 crore for Brownfield parks.

Institutional Mechanism for Implementation
Each MITRA Park will be developed by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly owned by the Centre and the respective State Government. While the Ministry of Textiles will oversee execution, State Governments will provide land and supporting infrastructure.

Aligned with PM’s 5F Vision
Inspired by the Prime Minister’s 5F vision—Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign, the MITRA scheme seeks to build a self-reliant textile ecosystem, strengthen India’s position on the global textiles map, and advance progress towards UN Sustainable Development Goal 9: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.”
