PM Modi Inaugurates Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Meerut Metro route in Meerut, marking a major milestone in high-speed regional connectivity in northern India.

The Prime Minister dedicated the entire Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation and inaugurated the remaining sections, including:

  • A 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi
  • A 21-km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh

Integrated RRTS–Metro System

The project integrates the Namo Bharat RRTS with the Meerut Metro, creating a seamless system where:

  • Metro serves intra-city travel
  • Namo Bharat trains provide fast inter-city connectivity

This supports the government’s “Twin Cities” vision for better urban mobility and regional development.

  • Total Cost: ₹30,274 crore
  • Total Length: 82.15 km
  • Elevated Track: ~70 km
  • Underground Section: ~12 km

The project is implemented by National Capital Region Transport Corporation, a joint venture of the central government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

What is Namo Bharat RRTS?

  • A high-speed, high-capacity regional commuter service connecting major nodes in the NCR.
  • Faster than Metro for longer distances, with fewer stops.
