PM Modi Inaugurates Safran Aircraft Engine Services India Facility in Hyderabad

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. The state-of-the-art establishment is set to play a pivotal role in transforming India into a Global Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Hub.

Key Highlights

India’s Growing Aviation Sector

  • PM Modi noted that with the rapid expansion of India’s aviation market, the demand for domestic MRO services has risen sharply.
  • Currently, around 85% of India’s MRO work is conducted abroad, leading to higher costs, longer turnaround times and extended aircraft grounding.

India as a Global MRO Hub

  • The Prime Minister emphasised the Government of India’s vision to develop the country as one of the world’s major MRO hubs.
  • For the first time, a global OEM has set up a deep-level servicing facility for aircraft engines within India.

About the SAESI Facility

  • Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) is dedicated to servicing LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engines, used in Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
  • The facility is among the largest global aircraft engine MRO centres and marks the first MRO operation in India by a global engine OEM.

Scale and Capacity

  • Spread across 45,000 sq. metres.
  • Built with an initial investment of approx. ₹1,300 crore.
  • Designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually.
  • Will employ over 1,000 highly skilled Indian technicians and engineers by 2035.

Advanced Technology & Capabilities

  • Equipped with state-of-the-art process equipment to deliver world-class maintenance and repair services for next-generation aircraft engines.
