PM Modi performs Bhoomi Pujan of Kaziranga Elevated Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 18 January, performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project at Kaliabor in Assam, marking the start of a major infrastructure initiative worth over ₹6,950 crore.

About the Project
The Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project aims to improve regional connectivity while ensuring the protection of the fragile ecosystem of Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Key Features

  • Total length: 86 km
  • Four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of National Highway-715
  • 35-km elevated wildlife corridor passing through Kaziranga National Park
  • 21 km of bypasses and 30 km of highway widening

Wildlife Conservation Aspect
The elevated corridor is designed to allow free movement of wildlife such as one-horned rhinos, elephants and tigers beneath the roadway.
This design is expected to:

  • Reduce human–wildlife conflict
  • Improve road safety
  • Ensure uninterrupted traffic flow

Geographical Coverage
The project will pass through the districts of:

  • Nagaon
  • Karbi Anglong
  • Golaghat

Expected Benefits

  • Significant reduction in travel time
  • Improved road safety
  • Decongestion of towns such as Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat through bypasses
  • Enhanced connectivity to Upper Assam, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia
