PM presides over 60th All India Conference of DGPs/IGPS

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the 60th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur. The three-day conference was centred on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions’.

Key Highlights

  • Transforming Public Perception of Police: PM Modi stressed the need to improve professionalism, sensitivity, and responsiveness within police forces, especially to build trust among the youth.
  • Strengthening Urban & Tourist Policing: Highlighted the importance of robust urban policing and reinvigorating tourist police across the country.
  • Awareness on New Criminal Laws: Urged wider dissemination and public awareness regarding the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, and Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, replacing colonial-era criminal laws.
  • Leveraging Technology & AI: Directed State/UT police to utilise integrated NATGRID databases and link them with Artificial Intelligence to generate actionable intelligence.
  • Focus on Remote & Coastal Regions: Called for innovative strategies to integrate uninhabited islands, strengthen coastal security, and ensure holistic development in areas freed from Left Wing Extremism.
  • Promoting Forensics in Investigations: Suggested that universities and academic institutions conduct case studies on forensic use in policing to further strengthen the criminal justice system.
  • Monitoring Banned Organisations: Emphasised establishing mechanisms for continuous monitoring of banned outfits.
  • Whole-of-Government Approach to Drug Abuse: Stressed collaboration across enforcement, rehabilitation, and community engagement to combat drug abuse.
  • Enhancing Preparedness for Disasters: Urged Police Chiefs to reinforce coordination and preparedness for managing cyclones, floods, and other natural disasters.
