Why in News?

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has published its first Interpol Purple Notice regarding a unique trade-based money laundering modus operandi detected during investigations.

  • Published on 21 August 2025.
  • Aim: To create awareness and sensitise global counterparts about emerging money laundering trends.
  • Provides member countries with information on:
    • Modus operandi of criminals
    • Objects, devices, concealment methods

Interpol Notices – Types

Interpol issues 8 types of colour-coded notices:

  1. Red Notice – Wanted persons (arrest/locate)
  2. Blue Notice – Collect information about persons
  3. Green Notice – Warning on criminal activities
  4. Yellow Notice – Locate missing persons
  5. Black Notice – Unidentified bodies
  6. Orange Notice – Dangerous materials (weapons, parcels)
  7. Purple Notice – Criminal modus operandi, concealment methods
  8. Interpol–UN Security Council Special Notice – Individuals/entities under UN sanctions
