Rampage missiles

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is preparing to place significant orders for Rampage air-to-ground missiles from Israel. The move comes after the missile’s successful operational use and proven integration with India’s frontline fighter fleet.

Fleet Integration

The missile, referred to in IAF service as High Speed Low Drag (HSLD) Mark-2, has already been integrated with:

  • Su-30 MKI
  • Jaguar
  • MiG-29 fighter aircraft

Combat Proven

The Rampage missile demonstrated its effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, when Su-30 MKIs used it extensively against Pakistani positions.

Induction History

  • First inducted: 2020–21
  • Context: Following heightened tensions with China in eastern Ladakh

Capabilities

  • Role: High-speed, long-range precision strike weapon
  • Advantage: Enables aircraft to hit deep enemy targets while remaining outside hostile air defence range
