Ramraja Temple, Orchha

The Ram temple in Ayodhya witnessed another pran pratistha (idol consecration) in June 2025, when the idol of Lord Ram the king was consecrated. While the consecration in 2024 was for the idol of Ramlala, or Ram the child, this pran pratistha was of the Ram Darbar, or Ram as the king, surrounded by wife Sita, brother Lakshmana, and devoted ally Hanuman.

  • Two Forms of Lord Ram Honoured:
    • Ramlala (Child Ram): Consecrated last year; symbolizes innocence and purity, worshipped in vatsalya bhakti (devotion through parental love).
    • Ram Darbar (King Ram): Consecrated this month; represents justice, peace, and ideal governance.
  • Significance of Consecration (Pran Pratistha):
    • Ritual that transforms an idol into a deity worthy of worship.
    • Essential for invoking divine presence in temples.
  • Ayodhya Temple’s Dual Honour:
    • Since Ayodhya is both Ram’s birthplace and kingdom, the temple includes both formsBalak Ram and King Ram.

Ramraja Temple, Orchha (Madhya Pradesh)

  • Unique Worship:
    • Only temple in India where Lord Ram is worshipped as a king — not just as a deity.
    • He is revered as the ruler of Orchha and receives royal honours daily.
  • Historical Background:
    • Built during Madhukar Shah’s reign (1554–1592) of the Bundela dynasty.
    • Originally a palace, not a temple.
  • Architectural Distinction:
    • Lacks a shikhara (temple spire).
    • Features arched gateways, domed chhatris, and palatial design elements, reflecting its non-temple origins.
