Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd

A new multi-State cooperative, named ‘Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd,’ was announced at an event in Anand, Gujarat, marking four years of the Union Ministry of Co-operation. The new entity, registered at Gandhinagar under Section 7 of the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002, will focus solely on milk collection from 20 States and 2 Union Territories. Union Home and Co-operative Minister Amit Shah unveiled its logo.

Key Features of the New Cooperative:

  • Focus on Milk Collection: The primary function of Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd. will be milk procurement only. It will specifically target 20,000 “untapped” village-level milk cooperatives in various States.
  • No Competition with Existing Federations: This new body is designed to complement, not rival, existing entities like the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) or other state-level dairy federations. It will not engage in any processing or marketing activities.
  • Geographical Reach: Its operations will extend across a wide region of India, including:
    • States: Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Telangana.
    • Union Territories: Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Equity Structure:
    • GCMMF will hold 20% equity in the new cooperative.
    • 60% of the equity will be shared among other district cooperative milk unions in Gujarat that operate under the GCMMF umbrella.
    • The remaining 20% equity will be distributed among the village-level milk cooperatives in other States and Union Territories from whom milk will be procured.
