SheLeads II: Workshop for Women Leaders

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, has inaugurated the second edition of ‘SheLeads II: Workshop for Women Leaders’ in New Delhi. This flagship capacity-building program is organized by the UN Women India Country Office.

Key Details of the Initiative

  • Timing: The workshop’s timing is significant, as it follows the historic passing of the Women’s Reservation Act, 2023, which mandates a 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.
  • Objective: The core aim of SheLeads is to advance gender equality in public and political leadership. It specifically supports women leaders in preparing to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections.
  • Addressing the Gap: Currently, women hold only 14% of the seats in the 18th Lok Sabha. Initiatives like SheLeads are considered crucial for bridging this representation gap and ensuring the effective implementation of the new reservation act.
