SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) Initiative

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on January 1, 2026, launched the #SkilltheNation challenge under the SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), marking a major push towards preparing India’s workforce for the age of artificial intelligence.

What is the SOAR Initiative?
The Skilling for AI Readiness (SOAR) programme is a strategic national initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence competencies into India’s skilling and education ecosystem. It seeks to equip youth with future-ready skills and align human capital development with emerging technologies.

Alignment with National Tech Vision
The SOAR initiative supports the government’s broader objective of positioning India as a global leader in advanced technologies, including AI, machine learning and data-driven innovation. By mainstreaming AI skilling, the programme aims to enhance employability and productivity across sectors.

Launched During Skill India Decade Milestone
SOAR was launched in July 2025, coinciding with the 10-year milestone of the Skill India Mission, which was initiated in 2015 to empower India’s workforce through large-scale skilling and upskilling programmes.

Integration with PMKVY 4.0
AI and emerging technology modules under SOAR are being aligned with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, reflecting the evolution of Skill India from traditional trades to cutting-edge digital and technological domains.

Significance of #SkilltheNation Challenge
The #SkilltheNation challenge is designed to mobilise institutions, industry, and learners to actively participate in AI skilling, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation across the country.
